His love for the skies began at the young age of 12 and has only grown stronger with time. As he stepped into his late teens and early twenties, he embarked on a journey across the UK and Europe, capturing breathtaking photographs at airports and airshows. But Jim's thirst for adventure and knowledge didn't stop there. Later on in life, he spread his wings and flew to Australia, where he continued his love affair with aviation. He then traversed across to the USA, gaining valuable experience and expanding his horizons. But ultimately, he returned to his beloved Australia, where he now resides and continues to work in the aviation industry. With his extensive knowledge and experience in the field, Jim travels throughout Australia, Asia, the South Pacific and occasionally back to the UK and USA, exploring every nook and cranny of this magnificent world. Whether you're an aviation enthusiast or simply curious about the wonders of the skies, Jim is your go-to person for all things aviation. Aviation Photographer | Aviation Media Network | Cairns, Queensland, Australia For Jonathan Williams, aviation is far more than a hobby — it is a lifelong passion that borders on obsession. With more than 45 years of hands-on experience in and around the aviation industry, Jonathan has developed an extensive knowledge and appreciation of flight, with interests spanning military fast jets, historic warbirds, executive jets and commercial airliners.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Jonathan now calls Cairns, Far North Queensland, home. His enthusiasm for aviation has taken him across Australia and around the world, documenting aircraft and aviation activities at airshows, airports and military air bases. Throughout his journey, he has established strong professional relationships with the Australian Defence Force, earning regular invitations to cover military aviation events and media opportunities across the country.
Over the past two decades, Jonathan has channelled his passion into aviation photography. Working with Canon camera bodies and lenses, he combines technical expertise, patience and a creative eye to capture the power, precision and excitement of aircraft in action. His dynamic imagery reflects not only the spectacle of flight but also the people, technology and dedication behind aviation operations.
Jonathan joined Aviation Media Network (AMN) in July 2026, bringing a wealth of experience, industry connections and enthusiasm to the team. His focus is on helping expand AMN's international reach and engagement through comprehensive photographic and editorial coverage of military exercises, airshows, visiting military aircraft and significant aviation events, particularly those taking place throughout Far North Queensland.
Beyond his contributions to AMN, Jonathan is a passionate advocate for aviation within his local community. He administers the Far North Queensland (FNQ) aviation Facebook page, which has grown to nearly 9,000 members worldwide. The group provides a thriving platform for aviation enthusiasts to connect, share photography, exchange information and celebrate the region's diverse aviation activities and heritage.
Jonathan is also an active member of the Far North Queensland Aviation Museum (FNQAM), situated at the historic Second World War airfield in Mareeba. Through his involvement in media production and fundraising initiatives, he helps support the museum's important work in preserving, celebrating and sharing Far North Queensland's rich aviation history with future generations.
Whether photographing frontline military aircraft, documenting major international exercises, supporting aviation heritage projects or engaging with fellow enthusiasts, Jonathan brings the same energy, professionalism and dedication to everything he does.
